Yey for snow! I've had a most excellent day, running about in the snow and having fun. It snowed a little last night, but it really started this afternoon... absolutely blizzarded down! I was at fencing at the time (had fun there), but by the time I got back, Linus, Tadi and Bri had all snowballed themselves out, so I went round to Johns house where we had massive snowball fight. Huuge. Great fun :D
And then.... the snowgirl began. We started rolling a massive ball of snow, and over a period of about an hour, interupted by some (attempts at) snowboarding, we made Sharon/Shelly/Sheila. A fine beauty of a snowgirl.
At the same time, I began rolling a massive snowball. It was really, really big, and I decided to try and roll it from John's house to my house. Bad idea. It took us (me, John and Charon) a good 30 mins to roll it the two minute walk, enlisting several people to the cause along the way. Just as we came in sight of my house, the damn thing split in half :'(
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable night... we had a nice communal gathering in our kitchen, drinking tea and hot chocolate and recounting the adventures of the past 2 hours... so warm and fuzzy and happy :D
Photos of the whole night here.

I'm gonna head off to bed now, as I have a horrible, horrible day tomorrow, full of lectures and assessments :(

1402 - Y'know what? Ever since last week, I had said I wouldn't go to the venue yesterday. What did I end up doing? Yup, I went to the venue.
The reason I said I wouldn't is because DJ Spoony (from Radios 1's "Dreem Team") was there, and I don't like HipHop and R&B, which is all he plays. It wasn't too bad a night... had a fair ammount to drink before we went (half a bottle of Rose, a mug of champagne, and three huge vodka shots) with Danielle, Pringles and Janine, and there were plenty of laughs. There are plenty of photos, and as usual, Janine seems to be in most of them. *rolls eyes*

2349 - Just got back in from fencing, where I had a really good time. It was the annual inter-college competition, and I won all my games (as did the other two in my team) meaning we are through to the final. Good stuff :)
I'm gonna read for a bit, then try and get an early night. For a change.

I walked to Whitstable today. At 4 o'clock in the morning. I'm crazy.
I had gone round to #12 to fix Danielles computer, and watched the last half of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" with her and Janine, which took us to 2am. Then we did some silly little name game thingys that you do in high school (you know, the ones that tell you who you're gonna marry), until Danielle decided to go to bed. It was a few minutes later, when Janine was saying how she almost got a job in Whitstable, that the idea hit me. Lets walk to Whitstable. So we did.
It was actually a really nice walk there, only taking about an hour and a half to walk the 7 or so miles to the beach. Janine even found the Somerfields, peered into the windows, and started comparing it to her home town, Lawnston's Somerfield. In fact, Janine decided that Whitstable was very much like Lawnston. So much so, that it could actually be Lawnston. But it wasn't.
So yeah. Nice walk, got a taxi back at 7.30, and went straight to bed, didn't wake up til 1 in the afternoon.

I have'nt done all that much for the rest of the day, did a little work, played a few games, printed some stuff off for Danielle and fixed her printer... I think I might read some, and then get an early night tonight. Maybe watch a movie first.

Ah, what a great evening. We (me, Janine and Pringles) have just spent the last few hours calling houses trying to find a guy called Matt... and it's been three hours of laughter. Pringles deserves an award for her acting on the phone, she really does. We called John, and got a fantastic 30 mins out of John, before his housemate started talking to us and he ran around to the house and busted us. Hehe, I'm laughing just thinking about it... ah.
*wipes a tear from his eye* Fun stuff :D
Time for bed now though... had a looooong day, and I've got work to catch up on (missed all lectures/classes today because of sorting out the house. Thats the official line, anyway ;) )
House House House House, we have a HOUSE!! In the end, the agents let us go for option 3 below, so I have payed £500 for both my tenancy and the spare 6th persons, which allows us lots of time to find someone else; When we do, they'll pay me the £250 directly.
It's sooooo FUN! and EXCITING!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Wednesday, 21 January 2004

Wow. What a day >.<
It started really well, with my new graphics card arriving (which didn't work for a while, making me annoyed, but it eventually got picked up by windows, and now it's GREAT!!! :D ), and then got even better when I phoned the houseing company. See, yesterday I phoned up to reconfirm the viewings of some properties today, and I got told that there were none left, that all the 6 bedroomed houses had gone. Needless to say, we were all a bit down about that, but I phoned them back today, and they had just had a new house come on the market, and if we could get there now, we could go see it.
I rand at 1330, by 1430 we were at the place, ready to leave (they wanted us by 1400, but we got a bus that took longer). Anyway, we went and found the house, and it was absolutely amazing. Really, really, nice, with cosy bedrooms and a great kitchen, lots of space... wonderful, really. So all six of us agreed to get it. Now, we were supposed to all pay £250 right there and then, to take the house, but I managed to convince them that we couldn't do it now (the others didn't have cheque books on them), and would they accept a £500 deposit from me to hold the house. Thankfully they agreed, I went and gave them the money (they only took £250 off me in the end, the equivalent of my deposit), with the assurances we would be back at 0900 tomorrow with the rest of the money.
We were all on a high, so we went to the pub and got a meal, and we were all happy.... then Max suddenly said that he doubted he could afford to get the house, and that if we could find someone else to take his place, it would be good.

Find someone else. Before 9am tomorrow. We've asked Benedicte, and it would be great if she could make it, but from having no offers at all she suddenly had 3 today, and I seriously doubt she will say yes to us... it's too sudden, and it's a big decision. So... we are kinda in a rut. We really love the house, but if we can't find a 6th person for tomorrow morning... :'(

As far as I can see, the options are:

  1. Give up on the house, get my £250 back (They don't usually give deposits back, but I managed to convince her to give it back if I came in first thing and said we didn't actually want it. The agent was really good about the whole thing)

  2. Find any random person looking for a house

  3. Take the 6th room ourselves, and pay for it between us. This would be really good, as it gives us time to find a 6th housemate. Only problem is coming up with another £250 between us (I'm already helping Tadi with her deposit, and may need to help John too.... coming up with £250 isn't easy on short notice, I've discovered), and whether the agent will actually let us swap the tenancy of the 6th room to another persons name without charging excessive admin fees. Good option, but potentially expensive

  4. Max has said he will take the tenancy with us if he can't find anyone else, but I'm kinda worried about that. I'd rather him tell us now that he can't afford it, and be certain of it, than wait 3 months until it's too late. Bah.

So yeah. Thoughts, anyone?

Just a quickie before I head off for a lecture. I've just uploaded the photos from last night, and am also pleased to say that my eye seems to have healed ok, which is a very good thing! :P Bad news is, my graphics card hasn't shipped yet, and my new HD has been delayed because my address didn't match the one given by the bank :/
In case you didn't know, my computer died a horrible death over the weekend, one of my HD's failed (an old one that I had only just installed, cos I was out of space), and that HD had most of my files on it. I've recovered most of it, but I still have about 5Gb of music that I can't seem to get off it. Woe is me :(
Anyhow, lectures call (Functional Programming in Haskell! Fun for me!!), amd I must be off. TTFN :)

1154 - Y'know yesterday, how I said I ran into a tree? Well... I woke up this morning and there was green gunk all round my eye, and I couldn't see. Yes, I know. Not nice. I went to the medical centre here, and the doctor told me I had scratched and infected the eye itself, and so I'm gonna head off into town with a prescription for some ointment stuff that should hopefully clean it out.
Yummy.
So, I'm gonna have another bash at fixing the faulty HD, and then go into town and do some shopping. I have a parcel to send to Norway, for Silje, £15 to spend in WHSmiths, a prescription to get, some games to swap in GAME for John... and I should probably fill in the HC1 form (form for getting NHS treatment) and write my Xmas "thank-yous" before I go, so I can post those too.

1753 - Back from town with fusidic acid to but in my eye, and the Gladiator & Mission : Impossible 2 DVDs. Yey me. Seeing as my computer isn't funning at top spec, I think I might get the Dark Tower series of Sam, and sit down and read them. I've heard they're good.

Friday, 16 January 2004

1941 - Today has been one really crappy day. It started off alright, happily bouncing along... I even bought myself a new graphics card! Things were going good. And then...
Disaster struck. My compy crashed, and just would not boot up. Turns out the second HD I installed yesterday was malfunctioning. The bad news? I had transferred 9Gb of my files to that HD. So I'm really in some problems.
Bah. I'm gonna go to woodies now... £1 a pint for the next hour mins, with a tenner to burn.

2333 - I ran into a tree, and now my eye really hurts :'(

Wednesday, 14 January 2004

0023 - Had a pretty cool day today; Only had one lecture at midday (and I fell asleep halfway through), then spent the afternoon playing Age of Empires 2 with John.
I intended to go fencing from 1700-1900, then then go to the fencing social, but I spent the evening looking at houses with next years housemates! :D (who are: John, Linus, Max, Briony and Tadi) The house at the top of the list is the one we are most interested at the moment, although the 23 St. Thomas Hill one and the 121 Down's Road ones also look pretty good. It's kinda expensive though, and I would have 2 weeks with nowhere to live between finishing uni at the start of June and being able to use the house. :S

Anyway, I finished of the image script I started writing yesterday to display the uni pictures, and added the photos from the weekend. Go check them out.

1440 - AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH! Phone bill = £82.90!!! ARGHARGHARGH!! Damn you, Norwegian phonecalls, damn you!
*Runs screaming into the distance*

Tuesday, 13 January 2004

2239: Urgh. Went through a bit of a hiatus over the weekend, as the server here at uni which gives me ftp access to my site was taken offline, so I was unable to update. It also happened to be my file and mail store, so I couldn't do any work, or read any of my mail either. So I played some games instead :D Anyhows, lots of stuff to tell....I have pictures to upload from last Friday and Saturday night, and two new movies, although neither came out any good :/

In other news, Linus is back home (lives in the room next to me, been in Oz for the past 6 weeks), he came back on Saturday, and all were happy to see him. Especially Tadi (another housemate, lives upstairs). He does, however, have glandular fever, which resulted in a bit of an argument betweem me and next door.
Y'see, they've all decided to quarantine our house. Anyone who lives here, isn't allowed in their house because we might give them glandular fever. Personally I think it's a daft idea, and I said as much. I mean, it's transmitted via saliva, and I wasn't really intending to go around kissing them all. And neither do I spit all over the house. And on the off chance I use a cup, I seriously doubt they would use it again for themselves without washing it first. They weren't however, all too happy with my objections, and so we had a bit of an arguement. Over MSN, seeing as I wasn't allowed in, which wasn't a good idea really. A word of advice... never argue over msn. They way you mean to write somthing is never the way it's read at the other end. Nasty stuff, misinterpretation.

Anyhow, ranting over for now... m'gonna go and try to modify the uni photos page, try and make it easier to add new photos and the like.

Friday, 9 January 2004

1340: Lots of fun and excitement last night.. School Disco night! Pictures and a movie coming later today. For the moment, a little animation for your pleasure.

1933: Well, I've got a cribpage up for the photos from last night, and a new item in the menu.. The University Page! It is by no means the finished article, but at least it gives access to the photos while I can work on a better one. The photos are up, but the most interesting thing is probably the movie I recorded of the girls singing Hit Me Baby One More Time. Quite amusing, but rather large.... it's probably best to right click on the link, and select "Save Target As". Anyway, more later....

Tuesday, 6 January 2004

2320: I went shopping this afternoon with my housemate, Anna, and a friend of hers, Natalie. Never again.
First off, girls are so easily distracted. You can barely walk 5 feet in a shop without needing to stop because they found some sparkly shiny thing that snagged their attention as they walked past. However, buying Polar Pete was quite fun...
Natalie was looking for a hotwater bottle (she's the one in the photo), and the only one we could find was Polar Pete, the Polarbear. There were three left, and after we took one, we thought the other two looked lonely.... so we flipped Polar Pete (in lieu of a coin), and decided to get the second one for her mum. Then, of course, the last one was all on his own, so we got that one for her dad. The photo is just before the checkout.
Anna then comes back, and finds another, really cute little hotwater bottle, and suddenly one Polar Pete is headed back to the shelf, kicked out by the newcomer, a small furry bear. Then, just when everything is payed for, another bottle is found, this time in the guise of a large dog. So it's back to the checkout, and a refund is given on the bear.. it is now kicked out, and Natalie and her mum get a Polar Pete, and her dad gets Berkeley (the dog).

In other news, I spent 5 hours banging my head on the wall because a program for an assessment wouldn't work, and then another 2 hours kicking myself when I realised how stupid I had been, and how simple the mistake was. Ooops.

Monday, 5 January 2004

2032: Uni is dead, nobody is about. I wonder where everyone is....

2120: According to Cat, she killed everyone with a virus, and it's her fault :/

2153: Well, people still aren't about. And Isabel wanted a mention on my site, so I guess I'd better give her one. I'm pretty sure I also have a photo of her about somewhere, if she wants me to put that up too.... ;)

Saturday, 3 January 2004

Busy, busy day. I've done loads of work on the site, and it feels really good to have finally accomplished stuff I said I would do ages back. I went into town this afternoon to meet Jo, and we spent a good few hours doing... nothing much, really :P Stole some water from Starbucks and sat there for a while, then I went and bought a DVD (Phone Booth) from HMV, and ordered House of Leaves from WHSmith, cos it's cheaper there :D. (Oooh, actually no, I didn't. They told me to order it from the website. I should go and do that now :O ). I met Beni briefly, and got some keys off her for Cat, before catching a bus back up to uni and lazing about for the rest of the evening.
Uni starts on monday (and I still haven't finished those assessments!), but the plans for the next few days include reading House of Chains and more of the lazing about :P. Such a great life, eh? ;)

1331: Some guy at my uni has placed a bet that he will get a 2 hour date with Kylie Minogue during 2004.

1632: I just got given some photos of me from about 5 to 6 months ago, when I was leaving manchester! Here they are....

They were taken by Claire, a good friend of mine from my time up in Manchester. The one on the left as I was leaving on the train to go off to Amsterdam in the summer. On the right, when we were in McD's the day of my departure.

She told me to say that it was a sad moment, and that tears were involved. It's true, it was very sad :(

Friday, 2 January 2004

Yey, just found out that Cat is back home! Over there now....

Okay, so it's now 0057 on the 3rd, but I couldn't be bothered to put a new entry up. I've had a fun and action packed afternoon / evening, and I kicked it off by going into town with Cat, and buying a Pergeot 206. A very nice car, brilliant value for money. So, that was fun.
Then, around 4ish, I headed off to the post office thingy to pick up a parcel containing a t-shirt for Tim, and two sweatshirts, one for me and one for Silje. Horribly long walk away, and it was freezing cold, plus I had to pay a customs charge of £11.50, so I wasn't too happy about that. But hey, at least I've got my geeky wotmania hoodie now :D
After that, I headed back into town and looked around waterstones, and ordered House of Leaves (Silje should be happy :P), and then headed across at around 6ish to Tims house, for his 19th b'day party. I've just got back from that... had a good time, and got to know a few of the people from his church a bit better.
Now, however, is time for sleep. For tomorrow, I really need to start looking at those assessments for Uni. Yeah, the ones I've been ignoring for the past week.
Fun day. Met up with Tim for the first time in a while, and had a good long chat with him, catching up on life in general. We went to a pub (the Ingoldsby, in Canterbury), around 6ish, and left around 9.30. I ended up walking back up to uni, because there are no buses on a bank holiday >.<
Anywho, we talked alot about travel in the summer, and I've spent the last few hours making plans to go to Michigan at the end of August, maybe nipping up to Canada for a little bit before. Should be cool, but I really need to plan what I'm doing this summer... so many ideas, and no time to do them!

Thursday, 1 January 2004

A new year means new years resolutions. One of mine is gonna be keeping this site maintained. And this time, I mean it.

I'm gonna be moving thing's around a bit, changing the way things work, hopefully making it better. Here's a "todo" list of stuff that'll be happening:

  • Journal moves to the front page. A months worth of journal will be found here on the homepage, and the rest will be archived on the journal page

  • Quotes box added to front page. On the right, I'll be adding a quotebox with all the funny stuff that people I know say. There's enough of it, trust me

  • Adding a "University" page. This is for all the photos I have from uni, plus any other uni related stuff.

  • Movies. My friend in Norway has lots of video from various encounters, and has pledged to let me have it to make available to you. I also have a camera that can take short clips, and I will be using that too. Plus my 8mm video camera once I can afford a decent enough video card. And a bigger harddrive

  • Comic. This is largely dependant on other people (i.e. The ones who can draw). I could give you renditions of some of my stickfigure art, but you would back away screaming. And I don't want that.
  • Artwork. I am a fairly good digital artist. Currently, my work is hosted at deviantart, but I intend to start uploading some here too. An option open to me is to open a sales account with deviantart... if you like my work, you can buy it! It costs me to start it up, but if I get the hits and the positive feedback, then I'll seriously consider it!

  • Add more games. There just ain't enough of them.

  • Completely revamp the forums. The content is old and mouldy.
    Definately needs a makeover.

  • As part of the above, I'm half thinking of introducing an RPG (Role Playing Game) to the site, a forum based game where a person creates a character, and writes about what he or she does, interacting with other people in a world and storyline to follow. Could catch on, if I can get enough people interested.

  • REGULAR UPDATES! I can't stress this enough! I intend to update the journal at least 3 times a week. Updates will include progress on the site, a link, a photo... maybe more, maybe less. But it will be there. I promise. - I think I've got this one sorted now ;)

Well, thats all I can think of at the moment. Hope you've had a Merry Christmas, and have a fantastic New Year!
